Tips to being successful

Just a few points of what it takes to be successful. It is not an easy ride and my saying as everyone knows – If it were easy everyone would do it.

Persistence – No matter what you have to do keep knocking at the door, fighting, and spite of how difficult it is. Never give up.

Late nights – If you’re an entrepreneur, you will most probably find you hit the pillow and your mind will be buzzing. So you find yourself up working through the night. I find that’s when I work best.

Dedication – Being fully committed to your business or goal. Don’t let your mind run off course and keep focus on that end result.

Hard Work – Like I said it’s not easy. Social life will take a back seat while your building. Long hours and just generally cannot switch off. But it’s all part of the buzz.

Rejections – No matter what business you are in, you will always come across rejection. Whether that’s a client going elsewhere, a buyer not interested in a product or not being able to sign that deal you was so close to. Even trying to get that business finance to start your business. Just keep going – Never let a rejection knock you down as your will have this throughout your career. You will learn how to deal with rejection and become stronger rather than taking it personal.

Sacrifices – While your building you need to sacrifice anything that’s going to distract you. That party that’s going to cause you to have a hangover for the next two days – Or maybe a holiday that will pull you out the loop for a week and not the best time. Maybe a group of “friends” that aren’t a positive influence in your life.

Criticism – You will get people giving you disapproval on your goals. Judging your business and what “they” would do differently. But constructive criticism is great. Choose what you want to take from people’s criticism and push out the negative.

Failure – Even with the most successful entrepreneurs they have failed at something during their journey. 8 out of 10 businesses fail within the first 18 months. Don’t be afraid of failure. Study, learn, hear and change what your business needs before it gets to this point. Failure is not bad; you can change it round to a good.

Doubts – Whether to start a business or something new within an existing business. Knowing whether to grow your team or bring in a new product. You will always have doubts. You have to decide what is best for you and business and most of all if your finances can take the change.

Risks – Business will always be a risk. Risk of going bankrupt, risk of the business not working, not pulling in the business you need. If you are not a risk taker I wouldn’t even try to start a company.

It’s all about timing

Don’t worry if your not where you wanna be yet. Great things take time.

I’m working with a few people and businesses at the moment who have big visions and dreams. Some are growing their business and others are trying to start a business.

Timing is key! One thing I’m not very good at is waiting. Everyone that knows me knows this. That’s because my life runs at a million times per hour! I don’t like to feel like I’m wasting time….
But it’s not in our timing, it’s in God’s.

Having the time before something big is about to happen is preparation for what is to come. Use this time wisely, research, prep, read, learn!
Keep positive and don’t get down if it’s not happening RIGHT NOW. Because it will happen if you keep working and fighting for it.

One tip to remember, you are the books you read, the movies you watch, the people you spend time with, the conversations you engage with. So choose wisely what you feed your mind with.

Enjoy and be grateful for what you have and are doing right now. It’s all a stepping stone for what’s next to come. Don’t worry if your not where you wanna be yet. Great things take time.

Lots of love and success,

Work ON the business not IN the business

Salon owners: Stepping out of the salon and working on your business objectives.

One of the main subjects I am questioned about the most is working on the business side of things rather than working in the actual salon, and the business side can be rather daunting at times. I really enjoy doing treatments as they are my passion and the main reason I started my business, I love talking with my clients, working alongside my team and most of all I love lashing and making clients feel beautiful.

But, my business would never grow to what it has if I still had my own column. So for my company to expand and my team to perform as successfully as they do it was necessary for me to step away from working in the salon full time.

With all of the background work there is to do such as accounting, salaries, staff appraisals, planning team meetings, advertising & marketing, social media, writing magazine articles, working on my other businesses, judging competitions, staff training, mentoring talks for students and writing policies. Plus an array of other tasks It would be virtually impossible for me to still lash too!

It’s all about a work and life balance and I didn’t have any when I had a column! All of the above tasks were done outside of my salon hours, which meant I was only actually giving it only 20% of my effort and to say I was exhausted after a salon day is an understatement. But nowadays I give the business side my all, 100% of my dedication. I still work around sixty hours plus a week, but I choose to do this.

This gives me time to go to the salon and see the salon from a customer perspective rather than a therapist, which keeps the customer service in the salon very strong.
I conduct regular training sessions with my wonderful team to ensure they are the best they can be. This also gives me the added advantage to help out the therapists on busy days when needed, so I am always flexible to step into my beautician shoes again which I love.

I stepped away from my column nearly three years ago now but I do still work on occasional Saturday’s purely because I want to as I love the salon atmosphere. However, last Saturday was my first week stopping my column again due to other on-going business commitments. Instead I worked on the reception which enabled me to still work in the salon but concentrate on the business side of things. I did get itchy feet though and I just wanted to pick up my tweezers and lash! but I have to keep focused and concentrate on the bigger picture, that being the business side.

If you want to know more about how you can move your column over to your team, start tripling your income and how to start working more efficiently on your business rather than struggling to do treatments and your business objectives then get in touch today for more details on my mentoring services.

What are your goals for 2018?

#businessgoals
As the new year is just around the corner, have you set your business goals for 2018?
This is the best time to reflex and evaluate how the last 12 months have gone and improve for the coming year.
My favourite saying is have goals, dreams and a vision that’s so big that people call you crazy! Nothing is to big, nothing is impossible and nothing you cannot do. It’s all about your mindset and goal setting.
Even if there is things that didn’t work out right this year, turn them around to a positive. What did you learn from? See the funny side of the negative.
What are your goals for 2018?
They might be something like…
❣️ Taking on your first employee
❣️ Starting your first business
❣️ Increase client loyalty and retention
❣️ Training and development
❣️ Investing in a business mentor
❣️Growing your social media
Nothing is to big or to small. So what are your 2018 goals?

The Burnout

The burnout….. entrepreneurs…. Do you know what I’m talking about?
Have them days where you feel low, anxious and exhausted. Well welcome to the business world. The more I talk to my students and fellow business owners (some extremely successful business owners too) I hear this common problem, we all have times where we are burning out.
We have have days where we wish we could have that one break. Even if we have a “day off” it’s NEVER a day off. The phone is going, emails coming in, chasing suppliers etc.
And even though we LOVE what we do, we cannot switch off which most the time means even working through the night.
It’s not easy I know, I live like this everyday.

What do you do to switch off? How do you relax?
This is very important to find what works for YOU, and to have at least that hour or two a day to switch off completely.

For me today, it was making Lola-Rose dinner and having quality time together with my phone on airplane mode so no work related issues could come in. Even thought I have been with my daughter all day which is amazing, I have worked most of the day on the go. This is just how we live.
Tonight I will read an hour before bed (this is what I do most evenings to switch off, even if the books are about business )

Most importantly is getting away! This is what I live for. Booking that holiday, or weekend away. Phone off, family time with no disturbance. Have some head space and you will be completely relaxed for when you get back. This is the ONLY time I mange to have time off without my brain working 24/7 so it’s very important for me to have that time to unwind.

So what is your way to switch off? Share your ways to help others ❤️

Lots of dreams and wishes,
Katie Godfrey x

Clocks back……..

I put this post up a couple of weeks ago now…. I thought I would share on her to help those that are struggling in business at the moment.

………………………………………..

So who forgot to put their clocks back today?

Well…. 8 years ago on Tuesday, in salon, that was me! I will never forget. I had opened KG that year and it was DEAD! The days would drag. My dad used to pop in after he finished work to give me a bit of company. This day he popped in at 5pm for an hour.

As he was getting ready to leave, so was I! I remember him saying, “Where are you going?”
“Home” i’d say.
It’s only 6pm he replied!

That feeling of being exhausted, looking at the clock, waiting to go home as I didn’t have ONE customer that day. I just wanted to cry!!! As I thought it was 7pm… but I forgot to put the clock back! That extra hour felt like a million hours. I would never ever lock up my salon early, just incase that one customer did turn up.

How much longer can I do this for? I remember crying nearly every night when it hit quiet season before the Christmas rush. I didn’t know how I was going to get through another day. The only light I could see was just to end it all and go bankrupt. But that was not my dream!!! And the fear of failing and packing it all up scared the life out of me…. that was the easy option.
But I kept going, and I got through it with a hell of a lot of hard work.
Chloe knows how dead it was and we both plodded on!

Now…. Well, that’s a different story! We don’t have enough hours in a day. Thank the lord. And grateful everyday.

So businesses out there, when it gets tough, don’t give up. Remember why you started and what your end goal is. But remember to change your clocks when you open up tomorrow morning 😉

Have a great week everyone
